Call for Abstract Submissions 

The Canadian Academy for Addiction Psychiatry (CAAP) invites abstract submissions for its 3rd annual conference.

This year’s conference will explore how specialized expertise across disciplines can strengthen integrated care for individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs. Through clinical, research, policy, and lived experience perspectives, this conference will highlight diverse approaches to coordinated, evidence-informed care across systems.

We welcome abstracts related to mental health and addictions, particularly those aligned with the following themes:

Who is invited to present?

The CAAP Conference Planning Committee aims to bring together diverse voices and perspectives. Submissions are welcome from: 

  • Patient, Peer, and Family Members with lived and living experience (strongly encouraged) 
  • Researchers and Clinicians
  • Physicians and Psychiatrists
  • Indigenous Health Teams
  • Allied health professionals (social workers, psychologists, counsellors, occupational therapists, pharmacists, etc)
  • Trainees and residents
  • Educators
  • Community Support Workers
  • Policy and System Leaders

Presentation Formats 

Breakout sessions 

Breakout sessions are 50-minute interactive sessions designed to foster discussions and exchange disciplines. 

  • Format ~30-35 mins of presentation time, followed by 15-20 minute discussion and Q&A
  • Multiple presenters permitted
  • In-person presentations only

Posters

Posters provide a visual summary of research, clinical innovations, or emerging practices in addiction psychiatry and mental health treatment. Students and trainees are strongly encouraged to submit.

  • Posters must be presented in-person
  • Poster size limit: 110cm (W) x 110 cm (H)
  • Posters will be evaluated, with recognition for the Best Poster award on the last day of the conference
  • Participants are strongly encouraged to try to attend for both days
  • There will be 1 hour of dedicated poster viewing day on the first day of the conference. Please note that at least 1 person is required to be present during this dedicated viewing session.
  • Research posters should be structured as: introduction/background, methods, results, conclusion

Videos

Video presentations may document personal experience, case studies, research findings, or educational content relevant to addiction psychiatry and mental health treatment.

  • Videos should be 5-10 minutes in length
  • Selected videos will be featured on the CAAP website during and after the conference
  • An abstract describing the purpose and relevance of the video must be submitted
General Submission Guidelines
  • Abstracts must be submitted through the CAAP online submission form,
  • Submissions must be in English,
  • Workshop and poster presentations must be delivered in-person,
  • Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee, with all decisions being final,
  • Submissions must be free of commercial bias and may not promote specific products or services,
  • If accepted, workshop and poster presenters must register for the conference applicable to their payment category, as well as cover their own travel and accommodations.

Additional Requirements

  • A Conflict of Interest Disclosure must be submitted for every author. This form is linked via the online submission form
  • For breakout workshops, a disclosure slide is required at the beginning of the Powerpoint presentation
  • The lead author will receive all correspondence and is responsible for informing co-authors
  • For breakout and poster submissions: each submission must include three learning objectives, beginning with 
    “At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to…(use active verbs such as define, explain, summarize)” 

Abstracts will be accepted via our online submission form until midnight PST on June 15, 2026.
